In our neck of the woods it is the peak of flu season…yuck, but so far the only thing to hit our house has been a head cold (myself of course). I credit this healthy trend to avoiding crowded public spaces as much as humanly possible as well as trying to instill good hygiene in my family.
One other truck up my sleeve is the immune boosting, vitamin loaded elderberry syrup that I make from scratch. This life giving elixir is high in vitamins A, B, C, and potassium as well as being anti-viral (a.k.a. Anti-flu), not to mention it tastes good enough that my two year old requests it daily. Now that’s a mom win!
This syrup is easily made from a few ingredients but can also be bought premade as well, such as this variety here.
Most of the ingredients can be found at your grocery store, but the dried elderberries will need to be purchased online unless you are lucky enough to grow your own. I planted three bushes last year but they are nowhere close to producing yet (sigh). These are what I like to purchase and will make enough syrup to last a family of three a year.
Not only is this tasty and easy to make, it will also make your house smell heavenly. I hope your family enjoys this simple remedy as much as ours does. Happy holidays and good health to you and yours!
